How do I convert my first batch?
Drop image files into Pixettle, or click browse files (⌘O). Choose an output format, choose a destination folder, then click Convert. When the batch is finished, Show in Finder takes you to the saved copies.
Which Macs can run Pixettle?
Pixettle requires macOS 13 Ventura or later and supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. The formats available for conversion depend on the image encoders and decoders included with your version of macOS.
Which formats can I open and export?
Inputs include HEIC/HEIF, JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, BMP and JPEG 2000, plus AVIF when supported by macOS. Outputs include JPG, PNG, HEIC, AVIF, TIFF, BMP and GIF; the menu shows only formats your Mac can encode. WebP is input-only.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Pixettle converts images locally on your Mac. The app has no upload service, account system, advertising or analytics SDK. If you save to a folder synchronized by iCloud Drive or another service, that service may sync the files according to your settings.
Will Pixettle replace my originals?
No. It creates new copies and never overwrites an existing file. If a name is already taken in the destination folder, it adds a numbered suffix, such as photo (1).jpg.
What happens to transparency and image quality?
PNG and TIFF preserve transparency and use lossless encoding. JPG, HEIC, AVIF, BMP and GIF flatten transparent areas onto white and export in SDR sRGB. JPG, HEIC and AVIF offer a quality slider; smaller files trade some detail for size. GIF is limited to 256 colors. Image dimensions are preserved, with orientation applied.
Does Pixettle keep animation, extra pages or metadata?
Animated GIF and WebP files, and multipage TIFF and HEIF files, export only the first image. Animation, extra pages, Live Photo video and auxiliary depth data are not exported. Exported copies omit embedded location and camera metadata; the originals remain untouched.
Why did a conversion fail?
The file may be damaged, its format may not be supported by your Mac, or the destination may be unavailable or full. Check that the original opens in Preview, choose a writable destination with enough free space, and try again. One failed image does not stop the rest of the batch.
Can I stop a batch or convert it again?
Stop lets the current image finish and leaves the remaining images queued. Click Convert again to process unfinished or failed items. Changing the output format makes completed images ready for conversion again.
Where can I download Pixettle?
Pixettle is being prepared for the Mac App Store. The download link will appear on its product page when it is available.
