How do I make my first recording?
Choose a screen or window, choose a save folder, and enable the audio sources you want. Click Start recording and allow the relevant macOS permissions. After the optional countdown, record your content, then click Stop & save in Captrille or its menu-bar item. Keep the app open until the MP4 finishes saving.
Which Macs can run Captrille?
Captrille requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later. It uses Apple’s native screen and audio capture APIs. Device compatibility and performance depend on your Mac, macOS version, selected resolution, and connected audio hardware.
Can it record screen, microphone, and speaker audio together?
Yes. Enable Output sound and Microphone to include both with the screen or window. You can also record the screen with either audio source on its own, or turn both off for silent video. Audio sources are mixed into one stereo track in the saved MP4.
What is the difference between Selected output and All Mac audio?
Selected output captures the digital audio sent to one speaker, headphone, or compatible mono/stereo output device. All Mac audio combines app output across devices. Audio capture is independent of the selected video window, so audio from another app can be included even while recording a single window.
Is this an exact recording of what comes out of my speakers?
Captrille records the outgoing digital audio available through macOS, not an acoustic measurement of your speakers. Hardware volume, device effects, spatial processing, protected media, and application or operating-system capture restrictions can affect what is recorded. Device mode supports the first mono/stereo output stream; it is not a multichannel recorder.
Why does macOS ask for recording permissions?
Capturing a screen, output audio, or microphone requires macOS consent. Only allow the sources you intend to record. Review access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording and Microphone. You can revoke access there at any time. If capture stops working after changing permission, quit and reopen Captrille.
Why is sound missing or doubled?
Check that the source is enabled, the selected device is connected, its mix level is above zero, and macOS permission is allowed. Audio meters activate only during recording. If your microphone also hears your speakers, the same sound can be captured twice; use headphones to avoid this. Captrille does not include acoustic echo cancellation. Some protected content cannot be captured.
What happens if I switch or unplug an audio device?
Selected output stays bound to the device you chose; changing your Mac’s default output does not silently switch it. Captrille displays a notice when the default output differs. If a selected device disconnects or its output format changes, Captrille stops and attempts to save the partial recording. Choose the new device and start a new recording.
What do the quality and mix controls mean?
1080p and 4K set the maximum longest edge, preserving the source’s aspect ratio without upscaling. Video is SDR, at up to 30 or 60 fps. The audio sliders set relative mix levels; combined levels are reduced when necessary to leave headroom. Higher resolution and frame rate use more storage and processing power.
Where are recordings and temporary files saved?
The final MP4 is saved in the folder you select. Captrille first writes a source MOV in that folder, then exports the MP4. Successful exports without warnings remove the source MOV. If something goes wrong, a source file may remain for recovery. Keep room for both files during export, and manage or delete recordings and remaining source files in Finder.
Are recordings uploaded or sent to alakaza?
No. Capture, audio mixing, and export happen locally. Captrille has no account, cloud recording service, advertising, analytics SDK, or developer-operated crash-reporting service. A folder synchronized by iCloud Drive or another service may sync recordings according to that service’s settings.
Can I pause, crop a region, or add my webcam?
This version records displays or individual windows. Pause/resume, custom region cropping, webcam overlays, video editing, and multichannel audio capture are not included.
Can I close the window while recording?
Yes. Captrille keeps a recording indicator and Stop and Save command in the menu bar. Quitting during a recording asks you to stop and save first. Keep Captrille open while the file is being finalized.
Where can I download Captrille?
Captrille is available on the Mac App Store. Use the Download on the Mac App Store button on its product page.
